Unique Wedding at Sevagram Ashram

Brief Report of  a Wedding at Sevagram Ashram

On January 9, 2026, a unique wedding took place at Sevagram Ashram, the first of its kind in many decades. Advocate Mohan Dixit from Vidisha and Geeta Kadve from Pāndhurna were united in marriage  in the open ground near Bapu Kuti  in a programme in tune with Gandhian values.decades.
Their day began with shramdaan (voluntary labor). Both the bride and groom participated joyfully in ashram activities and manual labor throughout the morning before the ceremony. Dressed in traditional attire, they walked barefoot—without drums, music, or fanfare—to the open ground near Bapu Kuti. Guests from across India attended, sitting on green mats and chairs arranged in a circle.
The ceremony began with Gandhi’s Sarva Dharma Prarthana (Universal Prayer), setting a solemn tone for the occasion. Ankit Bhai conducted the proceedings, while Dr. Sanjay Singh, Secretary of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, introduced the couple. Shri Chinmay Mishra also addressed the gathering.
Nine individuals who embody Gandhian principles presented nine solemn vows to the couple:
  • Shri Chandan Pal: National President, Sarva Seva Sangh

The vows taken by Geeta and Mohan formed a comprehensive pledge for a lifelong partnership, emphasizing mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to societal and environmental well-being:
"In the presence of our families, loved ones, the Constitution of India, Nature, and Truth, we solemnly pledge:

From today forward, we commit to being life partners, complementing each other’s journeys.

Our partnership shall rest on mutual trust, equality, and respect for each other’s individuality.

We shall fulfill the duties of our shared life with utmost sincerity, dedicating ourselves to the betterment of our country, society, family, and the world.

Our conduct shall reflect the universal values enshrined in the Constitution—Justice, Equality, Liberty, and Fraternity—inspired by Savitribai Phule, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Ambedkar, Jyotiba Phule, Fatima Sheikh, and our ancestors.

We pledge to honor and dignify each other fully in thought, word, and deed.

With love, compassion, and friendship, we shall protect, nurture, and respect all living beings—animals, birds, rivers, lakes, mountains, and seas—treating them as equals.

We shall respect differences and disagreements, questioning superstitions and refusing to practice them.

In times of hardship, negativity, or conflict, we shall face challenges with patience, compassion, and wisdom, standing by each other as pillars of strength.

Should our relationship evolve over time, we shall continue to honor one another, cherishing our memories with gratitude and supporting each other through every challenge."

Geeta and Mohan wholeheartedly accepted these vows. After the recitation of vows , they exchanged handmade Khadi garlands. Shri Vijay Tambe, Secretary of the Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan, presented them with a letter of appreciation from the Ashram community. The celebration concluded with photographs and a simple, sumptuous meal at the Ashram’s Yatri Niwas.
