Orientation Programme for Social Activists February 21-24, 2024

  Orientation Programme for Social Activists coinciding with  80 th Anniversary  Kasturba Gandhi’s demise                                                               Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan in association with Gandhian Collective, Kerala organized an Orientation Programme for Social Activists coinciding with 80 th Anniversary Kasturba Gandhi’s demise in the premises of the Ashram from 21-24 February 2024.   The objective of the programme was to provide  insights into the life and contributions of Kasturba and Mahatma Gandhi in the historic setting of Sevagram Ashram.   The participants reached the premises of the Ashram on the evening of February 21. Soon after their arrival they attended the evening prayer of the Ashram. After dinner a session was kept to brief the participants about the programme . Dr. Siby K . Joseph, Director of Library and Research Centre of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan  welcomed them and gave  a brief outline of Kasturba Day commemoration as Matru Diwas

  Matru Diwas  80 th Anniversary  of Kasturba Gandhi's  Demise Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan observed the 80 th Anniversary  of Kasturba Gandhi's  demise on 22 February 2024 as Matru Diwas  with a number of programmes. At  5.45 am a padyatra was organized  from Nai Talim Samiti (Ghanti Ghar) to Bapu Kuti  with Ramdhun.  It was followed by  Sarva Dharma Prarthana in front of Ba Kuti at 6 am  with the participation of  Ashram community and others. Participants  of the Orientation Programme for social activists  organised  by Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan in association with Gandhian Collective also participated in the programme from early morning itself .  After prayer,  all joined in the cleanliness activity in the premises of the ashram and both sides of the roads adjoining the ashram.  A public meeting  was organized at the Seminar hall of Yatri Niwas of  Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan at 3.00  pm. Visit of German weltwärts Volunteers

  German Weltwärts Volunteers Study Visit at Sevagram Ashram  A group of 18 German volunteers who are currently stationed all across India , working at different social organisations and NGOs mostly in rural parts of India visited Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan,Wardha on February 21,2024. These students came to India  through a program offered by the German Government called the weltwärts   voluntary service program.The weltwärts development volunteer service is aimed at young people from Germany between the ages of 18 and 28 who are interested in volunteering for several months (usually a year) in a country in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Oceania or Eastern Europe (North-South component), and at young people who come from those regions, are between 18 and 29 and would like to volunteer in Germany (South-North component).   Gandhi-Mandela-Freire Fellowship   Resource Book  The  Second  Gandhi-Mandela-Freire Fellowship Programme  which commenced in June 2023  concluded in February 2024 . It was  jointly initiated by the Indian Social Institute, New Delhi, India and  the Loyola Institute of Peace and International Relations, Kochi, India.  The Fellowship Programme  was based in Loyola College of Social Sciences (Affiliated to Kerala University/LCSS) The moral community  which supports the initiative includes  many national and international partners.  Sri Jamnalal Bajaj Memorial Library and Research Centre for Gandhian Studies  , Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan, Wardha, India  was also a part of the moral community.  ( https://www.gandhi-mandela-freire.org/ )  One of the fellows from the first batch, Nirmal Khatri from Nepal, has curated and compiled the  GMF resource book. Participation in a Programme at Vishwa Shanti Stupa

  31 st  Anniversary of Vishwa Shanti Stupa On the occasion of 31 st  anniversary of inauguration of peace pagoda  a special programme was organized at Vishwa Shanti Stupa premises on February 15, 2024 . Smt. Ashaben Bothra, President of  Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan  participated in the programme and offered  prayers  for world peace on the occasion.  It was on 4 th  October 1933 the historic meeting between Gandhi and Nichidatsu  Fujii  took place at Wardha. It was Gandhi who had given the name Fujii Guruji  to Nichidatsu  Fujii. Though Fujii Guruji expressed his desire to establish peace pagoda at Gopuri near Gitai Mandir it was not materalised in his life time. He passed away in 1985. The foundation laying ceremony was done on October 1989 and inaugurated on  February 15, 1993. It is one of 80 peace pagodas all over the world.    After the programme  Smt. Visit of Students from Buldana

 Visit of Students from Buldana A group of students  and teachers from Deulgaon  Raja, Buldhana visited the Ashram on February 12, 2024. They were given brief introduction about the ashram. Their purpose visit was to attend to the evening prayer of the Ashram. Smt. Ashaben Bothra President of the Ashram had brief interactions with the students and teachers of the group..

Visit of High Court Judges of Mumbai on February 10, 2024

  Visit of High court Judges of Mumbai Justice Shri Vinay Joshi and Justice  Smt. M. S. Jawalkar  sitting judges of High Court of Mumbai were in Sevagram, Wardha for some programmes on February 10, 2024. They visited the Sevagram Ashram and offered prayers at Bapu Kuti. They were given a guided visit to the heritage buildings. Smt. Ashaben Bothra President of Sevagram Ashram Pratisthan welcomed and presented a copy of Mahatma Gandhi’s Autobiography. They    expressed    their appreciation    wrote their impressions about    the Ashram in the visitors’    diary .

Visit of Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Mission University Aurangabad  Shri Ankushrao N. Kadam. Chancellor, MGM University Secretary, Mahatma Gandhi Mission Trust, Aurgangabad and his family members visited Sevagram Ashram on  February 6, 2024.Dr. Rekha Shelke. Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities also accompanied the group. Smt. Ashaben Bothra , President of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan   welcomed the group to the ashram . Dr. Siby K. Joseph Director of Library and Research Centre  explained to the group the significance  of the place and how the ashram was connected with constructive activities and freedom struggle. The Chancellor described it  Sevagram  Ashram as a  holy place and with full of sacrifice.   

Study Visit of Laxmi Ashram Students

  Study Visit of Laxmi Ashram Students A group of 5 students from Laxmi Ashram , Kausani, Uttarakhand  reached Sevagram on January 26, 2024 .  A guided  visit to  the Ashram and Library  and Research Centre  was arranged on January 27.  Classes on Gandhian Thought with focus on  Sevagram Ashram and Nai talim   were arranged at Library  and Research Centre  during their stay in Sevagram up to February 2, 2024.  Dr. Siby K. Joseph guided the academic sessions for the group. They visited Paunar ashram, Magan Sangrahalaya , Gitai Mandir and other historic places in Wardha during their stay. Ms. Asha Ashi , Laxmi Ashram , Kausani    coordinated the programme
