International Dialogue on "Prospects for Peace and Stability in Post-Assad Syria"

 
Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan in association with Gandhi International,France; Academic University College for Non-Violence Lebanon;MGM University Aurangabad; International Centre for Non-violence ,Durban University of Technology,Portland Community College,Oregon organized IFPNP International Dialogue on January 3, 2025.
The Keynote Speaker of the dialogue  was Prof. John S. Moolakkattu, Editor, Gandhi Marg, New Delhi. The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Siby K. Joseph, Director, IFPNP, who introduced the keynote speaker, Prof. John S. Moolakkattu.

Prof.Moolakattu is  an ICSSR Senior Fellow who retired as a Senior Professor at the Department of International Relations & Politics, Central University of Kerala. He was earlier Professor and Director of the School of Gandhian Thought and Development Studies, Mahatma Gandhi University, Professor at IIT Madras, and the Inaugural Gandhi- Luthuli Professorial Chair in Peace Studies, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. 

Prof. Moolakkattu presented a comprehensive analysis of the current situation in Syria, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for peace and stability in the post-Assad era. He discussed the recent developments, including the formation of the interim government, and the role of international actors, such as Turkey, Israel, and the US.
He opined that the collapse of the Assad regime marks a significant turning point in the Syrian civil war. The interim government faces lot of  challenges in establishing its legitimacy and stability.External powers, including Turkey, Israel, and the US, will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Syria.The international community must support inclusive political dialogue and provide humanitarian assistance to affected populations. He expressed the hope that a positive outcome will emerge despite the challenges and uncertainties in the region. 

The keynote address was followed by a lively discussion and Q&A session, where participants engaged with Prof. Moolakkattu on various aspects of the Syrian crisis.
Mr.Raza Rafat,Mrs.Nidal Helou,Dr.Basavaraj Akki,Mr.Ali Ruwa,Dr.J.S.Rohan S actively participated in the dialogue. 
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof. Michael Sonnleitner, Formerly Professor  and Trustee of PCC, Oregon and a call to action to continue exploring ways to promote peace and stability in Syria.The programme was attended by fellows of IFPNP and representatives of organizing partners. Prof.Dorcas Ettang A Director I/C,ICON ,DUT,South Africa facilitated the discussions.
The programme provided a platform  to discuss the complex issues surrounding the Syrian crisis, and to explore potential solutions for promoting peace and stability in the region.
