April 22, 2024  marks the 55th annual celebration of Earth Day. It is worldwide event aimed at  raising  awareness of the need to protect Earth's natural resources for future generations.

 While giving Message on International Mother Earth Day the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres said

“Humanity is acting like Mother Earth’s delinquent child. 

We depend on nature for the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we drink. Yet, we have brought chaos to the natural world: poisoning our planet with pollution, wiping out species and ecosystems with abandon, and destabilising our climate with greenhouse gas emissions. 

These actions harm nature, and they harm humanity. We are imperilling food production, polluting our ocean and air, creating a more dangerous, less stable environment, and holding back sustainable development. 

Together, we must restore harmony with nature, embrace sustainable production and consumption, and protect ourselves from harm….”

Reflections on Earth Day theme 2024 : Planet vs. Plastics

The theme of Earth day 2024 is Planet vs. Plastics.  It calls to advocate for widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics, rapidly phase out all single use plastics, urgently push for a strong UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution, and demand an end to fast fashion.

The first Earth Day was observed in the United States of America in the year 1970 in which millions of people from all walks of life gave birth to a new movement to protect the planet. Thus April 22, 1970 marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement.....

  Preserve the Gandhian heritage at Varanasi July 22, 2023 is a red letter day in the history of   Akhil Bharat Sarva Seva Sangh , an institution which carries the heritage of Mahatma Gandhi   formed  soon  after his assassination by a Hindu fanatic. The picture of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi filled with dumped  books and materials shows the utter  disrespect of the State machinery to  Mahatma  Gandhi who is not only the Father of  the Nation but also a  universal personality respected all over the world. Cycle Yatra against the Culture of Greed

Pedalling all the way to Kashmir from Kerala   Reduce Carbon Footprint  through an Alternative lifestyle  Dr.Siby K. Joseph honouring the cyclists at Seminar hall of Library and Research Centre of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan  The  cycle   journey   which  was flagged off from Bodhi Centre,  Alathur, Palakkad district of Kerala on July 9, 2023   reached  Sevagram on July 24, 2023 afternoon.   The final destination is Srinagar. They ride  more than 100 kms per day. It took almost fifteen days to  reach Sevagram .The slogans of the cycle ride  clearly depicts the very purpose of the  journey: Lesser Carbon …Greener the world, Cycle to Work, Save India. The moving spirit of  the  cycle journey is   Shri Abdul Nazeer from Kerala an air force veteran  currently working in the  State Bank of India as a Deputy Manager.
