International Dialogue on Gandhi ,Development and International Political Economy 






 Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan Wardha, MS, India  in association with  Gandhi International,  France, Academic University College  for Non-violence and Human Rights- AUNOHR, Lebanon MGM University, Chh. Sambhajinagar,Aurangabad, MS, India organized an international dialogue on the theme  Gandhi Development and International Political Economy on  December 9, 2023.  It was part of the International Online Fellowship Programme-II  (IFPNP –II) . Dr.Michael Warren  Sonnleitner,   Formerly  Professor in the Political Science  Department Portland Community College ,Oregon, USA  delivered the Keynote Address. Dr. Siby K. Joseph, Director, IFPNP, Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan welcomed the keynote speaker, IFPNP fellows and others. Prof D. John Chelladurai ,  Dean, Interdisciplinary Studies and HOD, Gandhian Studies, MGM University  thanked the speaker for his continued support and mentorship of the programme. Prof. Prem Anand Mishra , Dean, Faculty of Gandhian Studies, Gujarat Vidyapith moderated the dialogue. In his address he placed Gandhi in the context of  ongoing discussion of COP 28 (Dubai), and the grave environmental crises we are facing . He shed light on different aspects of Development viz. Political, Personal and Economic and referred to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.  In the approaches to IPE (International Political Economy) he discussed the following :1) Economic Nationalism 2) Economic Internationalism3. Economic Structuralism  with  its ideological foundations and consequences 4) Economic Empowerment: Gandhian Foundations and Consequences. In the  Economic Empowerment or what he called asSustainable Green Developmenthe discussed the ideological components viz.1.The Golden Rule (Assumption) related to Rta and  the Law of Karma 2. Ahimsa/Nonviolence (Belief) related to Sat (Truth) and Tapas (Sacrifice) 3. Swadeshi/Self-Reliance (Goal) related to Moksha and  Swaraj (Self-Rule) 4. Sarvodaya (Strategies) related also to Brahmacharya and Satyagraha.  Then he discussed consequences of personal, national, and global self-actualization  and stressed the need for living with one another in greater harmony with Gaia. It was followed by a discussion on the theme by fellows and participants.
