Distribution of International fellowship certificates and declaration of peace fellows

International Fellowship Program on Nonviolence and Peace (IFPNP 2022-23 ) organized by Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan, Wardha in association with Gujarat Vidyapith, Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust and MGM University concluded on May 12, 2023 with the distribution of fellowship certificates and declaration of peace fellows. The academic sessions of this four months fellowship program was offered online from Oct. 02, 2022–January 30, 2023. In addition participants were also given an opportunity to participate in an international symposium/ conference on related themes held in January/ February 2023 in India. The Program aimed at introducing to the international participants the fundamentals of Gandhian nonviolence and peace; the dynamics of nonviolence; the ideas of Peace in the Global context and its conditions and constitution; Methods of nonviolence action: struggle for justice and peace; construction of sustainable living. Eminent teachers and facilitators from across the globe conducted the session. Notable among them were Prof. Michael Nagler,USA  Dr. Olek Netzer,Israel Dr.  Michael Sonnleitner, USA Prof. Pietro Ameglio Mexico,Dr. Christian Bartlof Germany , Prof.Mark Lindely and  Dr.Marke Wosinki ,USA.

The distribution of fellowship certificates and declaration of peace fellows was on the virtual mode and Prof. John Chelladurai, Dean, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies; MGM University welcomed the dignitaries and participants.  Dr. Siby K. Joseph, Director, IFPNP2022-2023, Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan in his summary report stated that nineteen candidates from Europe, Africa and India successfully completed and qualified for the fellowship. It was from 23 international and 28 national candidates who took the admission for the fellowship. Prof. Prem Anand Mishra, Dean, Faculty of Gandhian Studies, Gujarat Vidyapith announced   the names  who were qualified for the fellowship certificate and  declared as Peace Fellows. This certification was based on their attendance, evaluation of monthly assignments, project report and other requirements for the qualification of the same. On receipt of this certificate the fellows resolve to rededicate their life to the cause of global peace and nonviolence.

 Smt. Ashaben Bothra , President,Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan offered her blessings to Peace Fellows.Prof. Moolakattu S. John , Editor, Gandhi Marg New Delhi. Formerly Professor MG University, Central University of Kerala, IIT Madras,Gandhi Luthli Chair In Peace Studies 2008-10)University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa in his  Keynote Address succinctly analyzed the various perspectives on peace and influence of Gandhian ideas in the contemporary perspectives on peace. Prof.Vilas Sapkal, Hon. Vice Chancellor, MGM University delivered the Presidential Address. Dr.Michael Warren Sonnleitner Portland Community College USA shared his impressions as mentor and Faculty of the IFPNP . Major Dr.Ashlesha Tawade (India) Mr.Ezema Marcus Jideofor (Nigeria)Prof.Sunil Ganatra(India)shared their experience as fellows of the programme .Mr.Virat Kothari of Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust proposed a vote of thanks.

  1. I was also there in this programme since inception. My role was little bit different: I started running by the side of the chariot implying a close vigil on movement of wheels and monitoring horses. I have also provided meal to horses and riders without touching them.
