International Day of Tolerance

  M.K.Gandhi on Tolerance I do not like the word tolerance, but could not think of a better one. Tolerance implies a gratuitous assumption of the inferiority of other faiths to one's own, whereas Ahimsa teaches us to entertain the same respect for the religious faiths of others as we accord to our own, thus admitting the imperfection of the latter. This admission will readily be made by a seeker of Truth who follows the law of love. If we had attained the full vision of Truth, we would no longer be seekers, but become one with God, for Truth is God. But being only seekers, we prosecute our quest and are conscious of our imperfection. And if we are imperfect ourselves, religion as conceived by us must also be imperfect. We have not realized religion in its perfection, even as we have not realized God. Religion of our conception, thus imperfect, is always subject to a process of evolution and re-interpretation. Lecture at Gandhigram Rural Institute

Dr. Siby K. Joseph during his visit to Gandhigram Rural Institute delivered a public lecture on 14 th November 2024. The lecture was held at the Seminar Hall, Department of Gandhian Thought & Peace Science, GRI, Gandhigram and it was large number of students from various departments of the Institute and Shanti Sena members. GRI is the only institution in the country having Shanti Sena instead of NCC. Dr. T.Ravichandran of the Institute chaired the session . Dr. Siby K. Joseph made a presentation on the life and message of Gandhi during the Wardha Sevagram phase.  The lecture was followed by a lively discussion on various aspects of Gandhian Thought.  He also visited some Departments of Gandhigram Trust.  

Ph.D.Viva Voce

  Dr. Siby K. Joseph Director of Research Centre for Gandhian Studies was appointed as the External Examiner from India for a Ph.D. Viva-Voce by the Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed to be University) Gandhigram,Dindigul District,Tamil Nadu. As per the request Controller of Examinations i/c of the Institute Dr. Siby Joseph conducted the Viva Voce and    open defence of the Ph. D. thesis, on 13th November, 2024 at 02.00 P.M. in the Seminar Hall, Department of Gandhian Thought & Peace Science, GRI, Gandhigram. It was attended by research scholars, faculty and heads of various departments and officials of the University. Dr. Siby Joseph     in his brief presentation made some suggestions while publishing the thesis. Dr. T.Ravichandran of the Institute was the   Chairperson & Convener of Viva-Voce Board.

  Address at the Launch of Swaraj Today Web magazine Dr. Siby K. Joseph presided over the launch of Web magazine Swaraj Today and addressed the participants online on October 25, 2024 .  Dr. K. Arvindakshan noted writer delivered the keynote address on the occasion. Dr. S. P. Udayakumar writer and anti-nuclear activist inaugurated the web magazine.  Shri Tushar Gandhi, great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi gave a special message.  The programme was organised by Gandhian Collective. Visit of Foreign delegates to Sevagram Ashram

  A group 24 foreign delegates from National Academy of Direct Taxes, Nagpur came to Sevagram Ashram    on 23rd October 2024.   They were participants of a course on "Taxation in E-Commerce Industry" organised by NADT from 14th-25th October 2024 in collaboration with The Ministry of External Affairs, under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme.   On request from the Dy. Director (P&R), National Academy of Direct Taxes, Nagpur Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan arranged a guided visit to the different departments of the    ashram and heritage buildings. The group also visited the library and research centre premises of the ashram and Held discussions with Dr. Siby K. Joseph, Director of the Centre about the historical significance of ashram and contemporary relevance of Gandhi. First Death Anniversary of Shri Pradeep Khelurkar

   Tributes to Shri Pradeep Khelurkar On the occasion of the first death anniversary of Shri Pradeep Khelurkar,  former Secretary of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan, Ashram community paid tributes to him by  participating in   the Sarva Dharma Prarthana organised in front of Kishore Niwas of the Ashram on October 23, 2024. They also watered the Smriti Vriksh and offered two minutes of silence in the loving memory of the departed soul. Shri Sheikh Hussain,  Trustee of the Ashram Pratishthan and  the Managing Trustee of Sarva Seva Sangh and Dr. Shivcharan Singh Thakur  were also present on the occasion. 

Visit of Theologians

 Fr. Thomas Pulikkan CMI Spiritual Director, Darsana Institute of Philosophy, Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha along with   Fr. Francis Vallapura, who edited the work St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara: A Milestone in the History of Eclogue came to ashram on October 21, 2024.   They   also visited the library and Research Centre of the Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan. Dr. Siby K. Joseph briefed them about the activities of the Centre.
