Study Visit of Bhavan's group
Visit of Students and Teachers of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan to the Ashram
On April 20, 2026, a delegation of 20 students and four teachers from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram, Chennai, and Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir, Nagpur, undertook an educational visit to the historic Sevagram Ashram. The visit was part of an exchange study programme between the two schools.
The visit commenced with a guided tour of the ashram’s heritage buildings, offering students a firsthand look at simplicity of Mahatma Gandhi’s life at the ashram. Following the tour, Dr. Siby K. Joseph, Director of the Library and Research Centre, addressed the group, providing an overview of the ashram’s history and its pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle.
The evening session, held at the Ashram’s Library and Research Centre, began with a warm welcome from the Director. Participants were given access to rare archival resources, including video footage of Gandhi’s daily life at Sevagram and a curated gallery of historical portraits spanning the years 1933 to 1948 of Wardha/Sevagram. The session concluded with a presentation on Gandhian paintings and artistic tributes.
A key highlight was the interactive session, during which students asked a number of insightful questions specifically relating to Mahatma Gandhi’s daily life and the role of Kasturba Gandhi in the ashram community. This dialogue allowed the participants to gain a deeper, more personal understanding of the ashram's legacy.
