Exposure Visits / Orientation at Sevagram Ashram

Exposure to Mahatma Gandhi's Life and Action at Sevagram Ashram to 
International Students 


A group of 15 persons consisting of students and mentors undergoing International Certificate Course on Nonviolence and Peace at MGM University, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Aurangabad came to Sevagram for an exposure visit to understand and experience Gandhi’s life and methods of action in the historic premises of Sevagram ashram from 16 July to 21 July 2024. The participants were from Mexico, Brazil, South Africa and Gambia. 










It was a part of 15-days exposure visit to places of practice including Ashrams of Gandhi. The basic objective of the certificate programme was to introduce to the participants to basics of Gandhian Nonviolence -theory and action. MGM University, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies selected Sevagram Ashram as one of the sites for experiential learning through visits and sharing of experience, interactions and discussions with resource persons on Gandhian themes. 






During their stay in the ashram premises, they were given a guided visit to Gandhi’s life and work at Sevagram Ashram, basic education experiments at Nai Talim premises, Vinoba Bhave’s Ashram at Paunar, Centre of Science for villages, Dattapur, Charkha Griha, Sevagram, Magan Sangrahalaya, Wardha, Jamnalal Bajaj, Vinoba darshan exhibitions at Gita Mandir, Peace Pagoda at Gopuri . The group also visited Anandwan ,Warora during their stay at Ashram premises. The resource persons briefed the participants about the historic significance of Sevagram Ashram, Naitalim experiment, Gandhi’s approach to Communal harmony and multiculturalism, Constructive action, Experiments in Health care in the villages, life and work of Vinoba Bhave, Gandhi’s approach to racial discrimination. 





The resource persons for the programme were Smt. Ashaben Bothra, President, Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan, Shri Vijay Tambe, Secretary, Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan Mrs. Sushma Sharma , Nai Talim Samity, Dr. Vibha Gupta, Chairperson, Magan Sangrahalya Samity, Dr. Ulhas Jajoo of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Siby K. Joseph, Director of Library and Research Centre. Mr.Fernando Ferrara, Mexico, Mr.Leandro Uchoas, Brazil mentors of the course and Dr. Shrinivas Motiyele and Shri Soham Khadebharad of MGM University facilitated the group. Sri Jamnalal Bajaj Memorial Library and Research Centre for Gandhian Studies of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan was instrumental in coordinating the programme. The participants and mentors expressed their indebtedness to Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan for the enriching  experience.
