Visit of Aly Harre Ruwa, Doctral Fellow from MG University
Discussions on Research Project Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.
Aly Harre Ruwa, a citizen of Kenya, currently researching on the topic “Reasserting Nonviolence and Global Peace: A Study on Role of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr “ came to Sevagram Ashram on August 4, 2024 .The purpose of his visit was to collect data relating to the area of his research and experience Gandhi’s philosophy of life and action by staying in the premises of the Ashram. He held discussions with Shri Vijay Tambe , Secretary of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan and experienced the vibes of the ashram by visiting the heritage buildings and various departments. He visited the Library and Research Centre for Gandhian Studies of the Ashram Pratishthan and held discussions with Dr. Siby K. Joseph, Director of the Centre, on his research topic. He gave insights on some key areas relating to the study.
During his stay, he utilized the library facilities including archival collection of the centre Martin Luther King Jr. including the Ph. D. Thesis of Prof. Michel Warren Sonnleitner Gandhi and King : Soul force and Social Change. On August 6 he participated in a virtual meet organized by the Indian Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament on the occasion of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He listened to the presentation of Dr. Siby K. Joseph on the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear weapons and Surge in Global Nuclear Spending and other speakers.

Ali Harre Ruwa was very happy to interact with renowned singer and activist Amarendra Dhaneshwar from the Gwalior family and other guests who visited the library and research centre .Amarendra Dhaneshwar will feature the concert, titled "Idea of India in Cinema Music," organised by Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan on August 9.
On 7th August 2024, he discussed with Dr. Siby K. Joseph another research area of his interest, the influence of Gandhi in Kenya during the colonial period. He sought the academic support and guidance of Dr. Siby K. Joseph in the research work.
During his stay he also planted some saplings in the premises of library and research centre .
He will be returning to the centre of his research on August 8, 2024.
