Lanza Del Vasto Scholar's visit to the Ashram



 Dr. Alessandro Paolo’s visit

 to the Ashram in search of

understanding Gandhian heritage

Dr. Alessandro Paolo, a young researcher in political philosophy and intercultural pedagogy from Italy visited Sevagram Ashram on March 26, 2024.  He dedicated the last five years studying about non-violence as an all-embracing alternative paradigm, especially through a Ph. D. dissertation about Lanza del Vasto, direct disciple of Gandhi   who met  him  in January 1937 and  spent three months at Sevagram Ashram.  Gandhi had given the name Shanti Das to Lanza .



The title of Ph. D. for his thesis  of Alessandro Paolo  at the Department of  Humanities, education and Social  Sciences , University of Molise, Campobasso CB, Italy was  “Non-violence According to Lanza del Vasto and The Ark - Philosophical, socio-political and juridical implications for possible paths of intercultural pedagogy.Purpose of this first trip to India  was  to visit ashrams founded by the Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba and their followers, as well as to understand the situation of Gandhian teachings and heritage nowadays. 

 Dr. Siby K. Joseph , Director of Library and Research Centre of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan  guided him in the ashram visit and held discussions with him on Gandhi and Lanza. Dr. Siby K. Joseph worked on Lanza and published a couple of books.  He was happy to see the works of Lanza del Vasto at  the Library and Research Centre of the Ashram. He shared a soft copy of his PH. D. thesis for archive of  Library and Research Centre. He expressed his gratitude to the ashram for facilitating the study visit.

  Preserve the Gandhian heritage at Varanasi July 22, 2023 is a red letter day in the history of   Akhil Bharat Sarva Seva Sangh , an institution which carries the heritage of Mahatma Gandhi   formed  soon  after his assassination by a Hindu fanatic. Cycle Yatra against the Culture of Greed

Pedalling all the way to Kashmir from Kerala   Reduce Carbon Footprint  through an Alternative lifestyle  Dr.Siby K. Joseph honouring the cyclists at Seminar hall of Library and Research Centre of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan  The  cycle   journey   which  was flagged off from Bodhi Centre,  Alathur, Palakkad district of Kerala on July 9, 2023   reached  Sevagram on July 24, 2023 afternoon.   The final destination is Srinagar. They ride  more than 100 kms per day. It took almost fifteen days to  reach Sevagram .The slogans of the cycle ride  clearly depicts the very purpose of the  journey: Lesser Carbon …Greener the world, Cycle to Work, Save India.
