International Women's Day

 International Women's Day - March 8, 2024





International Women's Day is celebrated every year on 8 th  March. The United Nations  began celebrating International Women's Day in 1975, which  was  proclaimed  as the  International Women’s Year. The theme of International Women's Day of 2024 is “ Invest in women: Accelerate progress.”  On the occasion of  International Women's Day , World Health Organization  Regional Director for South-East Asia, Saima Wazed said "Investing in the health and wellbeing of women and girls first requires adequate investment in  health overall”  Despite the achievements we have made , it is matter of regret that gender inequality has increased in many ways and  even  today  health and wellbeing of women are not given adequate importance. Women's health is still given secondary place in Indian society. Women very often  ignore their health and well being  by giving priority to their family. It was in this context that Sevagram Ashram  Pratishthan decided  to celebrate International Women's Day by creating awareness about health among women on March 8, 2024. The general theme of the programme was “Equal health Awareness”.  It was also decided to organize cancer awareness for village women on the occasion in collaboration with Kasturba Hospital,  Sevagram.















 The programme was held at the Seminar Hall of Yatri Niwas of Sevagram Ashram  Pratishthan. The programme  was set in motion  with Sarva Dharma Prarthana.  Adv. Trupti Zilape, Coordinator, Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan  in her introductory remarks explained the object of celebrating International Women's Day and the importance of the theme chosen by the Ashram on the occasion. Mrs. Rupalii Ugale  and Mrs. Madhuri Chambhare welcomed the guests by presenting a   khadi handkerchief. The chief guest of the programme  was  Dr.  Prof. Suchitatai Thackeray, a noted  social activist. In her presentation  she shed light on the International Women's Day and the importance of celebrating  the day . Mrs.Shaily Kalantri, Public Relations Officer of Kasturba Hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Sevagram Wardha and  Dr. Sanjivani Vanjare provided information about different types of cancer in a lucid manner so that village women can easily  understand and detect them  .  They also shed light on the cost of investigation and the facilities available for the detection and treatment of cancer .  It was under the guidance of Dr. Poonam Verma , Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology  and Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Sevagram Wardha , the MGIMS team made  the presentation  about  cancer awareness among women.  After the presentation by the MGIMS team an opportunity was provided to participants to interact with the medical team and remove misconceptions and doubts about cancer and  care they have to undertake.



















 Mrs. Sujata Taksande Sarpanch of Sevagram and   Mrs. Sunita Dhawale Sarpanch of Warud were present on the occasion. The programme was conducted by  Mrs. Prabha Shahane.  Mrs. Madhuri Chambhare proposed a  vote of thanks  expressing indebtedness to all for makingthis programmea success.  About 70 persons working in the various departments of the ashram and village women  participated in the programme and greatly benefitted from it.
