Wardha Bird Day
August 22 is the Wardha City Bird Day. An election of birds was held from June 23 to August 15. 2018 to decide ‘Bird of Wardha’ . It also appeared in the Limca Book of Records. It was joint initiative of Wardha Municipal Council and NGO Bahar Nature Foundation.
Wardha was the second city after Sawantwadi in Konkan to hold polls to choose ‘bird of city’ in Maharashtra. Sawantwadi held the polls in 2017.By garnering 58% of total polled votes that is 51,267, Indian Roller, popularly called as ‘Nilpankh’, became ‘Bird of Wardha’ .The result of this poll was declared on August 22 and then onwards this day has been observing as Wardha city Bird Day.
Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan (SAP), Wardha organised a Residential Anandshala camp for school children between the from 7 to 9 June 2023 at the premises of Library and ResearchCentre of the Ashram . As a part of the camp, a special session was arranged on June 7 , 2023 to familiarize with birds and our environment. Prof. Kishore Wankhede of Bahar Nature Foundation guided the students.On 8th June Bird watching was organized in the ashram premises. Students identified 39 birds including Nilpankh. Nilpankh is often observed in the Ashram premises.
