Cleanliness drive at Sevagram

Cleaning of Public Roads and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar  Memorial Stone at Sevagram

The participants of   the orientation programme for social activists  organised by Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan in  association with Gandhian Collective Kerala undertook a cleanliness drive in the premises of the Ashram  on 25 and 26 July 2023. It was in addition to the  cleanliness drive in the campus of the Library and Research Centre of the Ashram and  other premises.

The participants noticed that   with the onset of the rainy season pavements were filled with grass and weeds. So they selected the pavements of the road from Bapukuti to Nai Talim  Samity and Yatri Niwas to the Research Centre. They removed the grass in the pavements and cleaned the area. Some of the walkers who observed it also joined the group.

On 26 July the participants  visited the spot in  Sevagram village where Dr. B. R.  Ambedkar addressed the villagers after the meeting with Mahatma Gandhi in May 1936. The participants on seeing the memorial  stone where Dr. Ambedkar sat to address the villagers   filled with grass and weeds,  immediately swung into action and  cleaned the area.  The participants  expressed the hope that efforts will be made  to maintain cleanliness in these areas with the cooperation of different stakeholders
