Visit of Students from 13 countries  to Sevagram Ashram 

As a part of the Hindi Vishwa Yatra of Indian Council of Cultural Relations, New Delhi, a group of delegates from  viz. Australia, Fiji, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mauritius, Poland, Republic of Korea, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan  and  Tanzania reached India on May 20, 2023.  During their stay in the national capital the students have visited the Red Fort, the Prime Minister's museum and the National School of Drama, in New Delhi.  The group consists of 31 delegates from 13 countries. They have attended lectures on democratic values and 75 years of India’s freedom at the Delhi University, and visited the Central Institute of Hindi, Agra.





Under the programme, the ICCR facilitates visits of scholars/students studying Hindi abroad to India so that they can experience the nation’s culture through interactive programmes. The programme includes a variety of sessions such as Hindi workshops, meetings with Indian universities and institutions as well as visits to places of cultural significance. As a place of historical significance visit to  Sevagram Ashram was included in the itinerary of the visiting delegates.

 





The group reached Nagpur on 26 evening. May 27 was devoted to visits and programmes in Wardha. The first place of visit in Wardha was Acharya Vinoba Bhave’s Paunar Ashram. After the  Paunar visit the group came to Sevagram Ashram.


                                    


On behalf of the Ashram, Shri Namdev Dhole, Manager, Yatri Niwas, Shri Siddesh Umarkar , Office Secretary, Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan, Dr. Siby K. Joseph, Director, Sri Jamnalal Bajaj Memorial Library and Research  Centre for Gandhian Studies  of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan welcomed the group on the morning of  May 27, 2023. Dr. Siby K. Joseph gave a brief introduction about the ashram,  the importance of each heritage building and explained  how this place determined   the history of the country.  

                                         


Later the delegates were given a guided tour.  They visited the first residence of Gandhi, the hut of Kasturba, the iconic Bapu kuti and an overview of the whole ashram. The visit  was an enriching experience for the visitors despite the the scorching heat  in the month of May.







The group was accompanied by representatives of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi  University, Wardha including  Shri B.S. Mirge, Shri Rajeshkumar Yadav,  Dr. Amit Bishwas and others.

The group will visit Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi  University, Wardha in the afternoon and attend the programmes there. The delegates  will be finally departing to their respective countries on  May 29th evening from Delhi.
