Sevagram Ashram'sTributes to Arun Manilal Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Arun Gandhi, has passed away on May 2 ,2023 at the age of 89 in Kolhapur, where he started a school for disadvantaged young girls in memory of his wife Sunanda Gandhi. He was second child of Manilal and Sushila Gandhi. He was born on 14 April 1934 at Phoenix Settlement, the ashram founded by Mahatma Gandhi near Durban in South Africa in 1904. He subsequently settled in America where he founded MK Instiute for Nonviolence and was instrumental in starting the Gandhi Legacy tour which introduced people to the major sites Gandhi was associated with in India and South Africa .His last visit to Sevagram Ashram as part of Gandhi Legacy tour
was in 2019. Arun Gandhi published several books on Gandhi including The Forgotten Woman: The Untold Story of Kastur, the Wife of Mahatma Gandhi with his wife Sunanda. He was as a trustee of Phoenix Settlement. He is survived by his sister Elaben Gandhi, his son Tushar Gandhi and daughter Archana Prasad and grandchildren and great grandchildren .
Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan paid tributes to the departed soul in the evening prayer. Ashaben Bothra ,President of Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan addressed the inmates of the Ashram in the prayer meeting and gave a brief introduction about the life and contributions of Arun Gandhi and his association with the Ashram. Everyone present on the evening prayer observed silence paying respect to the departed soul.

A sad news. I am remembering few days which I spent with the departed soul.
ReplyDeleteAshram is trying to link up people and make them aware of the essence of Peace, Nonviolence, Religious Harmony and brotherhood. They are ceaselessly trying to infuse values of Sarvodaya in society. It is also a real tribute to Mahatma and other departed leaders.
